Living With Autism: Day 14
Carson has been extremley calm the past few days. When he comes home from school he has been wanting to play on his ipad or watch his favorite shows. Its a pleasant change from constant movement and hyperactivity. He goes through phases like these and we never know how long they will last. There was a time when he never sat still and he cried constantly out of frustration. He was very angry and just not a happy little boy. It was heartbreaking but he has come a very long way!!!

Living With Autism: Day 13
Carson likes to chew on everything. He has decreased this behavior a lot. The paragraph below explains the reason for this.
Children with autism have difficulty in regulating their sensory experiences. They can have hypersensitivity or hyposensitivity to various sensations. Excessive chewing is an example of sensory hyposensitivity. These children chew, not because they want to destroy clothing, or other objects, but because they may like or need the sensation that they get by chewing. Thus, when we try to help a child with this problem, we need to tackle the root of the problem, which is sensory in nature.
Carson has several different chew tubes he uses. Each is a different texture. He has one that attaches to his clothes that is retractable. He has another long bumpy one that clips onto a zipper. He has two that vibrate, a elephant and a gator. They are called fiddle jigglers. The pictures below are ones he has. They are great and have reduced his chewing significantly!

Living With Autism: Day 10
This is Carson's communication app. The first screen gives him options of food, toys and places. Each of those bring him to a new page with choices. When he touches an icon a voice will say the name of the item. He is still learning but he will bring us the iPad when he wants to request something. As he gets older the app can get more in depth where he can put complete sentences together.
Carson loves his match it up app and he us so good at it!!! A few of the pictures below are of him using that app.

Living With Autism: Day 9
In the past month Carson has become more affectionate. He loves hugs and cuddles. Today he has wanted a lot of physical contact and tickles. He puts my hand on his stomach and giggles when he wants me to tickle him.
