Speech Therapy
Carson has a new therapist and she is wonderful!! He loves her and she is incredible with him!! He goes to her once a week for 45 mins. He loves the therapy swing. She uses this to calm him and to get him to focus and be more attentive. It works great and is very soothing to him. This picture is from his session last week...

April 2013 Update
Carson has been doing great and has adjusted well to the changes at school. He has a new speech therapist that is wonderful. She is so good with him and he loves her. I am so happy to see this because the last one he had just didn't mesh well with him at all. He is making so many sounds and he is saying a few words but we aren't sure if they are actual functional words or just sounds. He says Baby a lot and Mama and it sounds like he has been trying to say Thank You. We went on Vacation during his spring break from school and he did so well out of his familiar surroundings and routine. We had a few rough moments but overall he did great! He is starting to interact with us more and he has been so affectionate and loves to give big bear hugs. He smiles so much and giggles all of the time. He is a happy little boy and that is so great to see because there was a time when he was so frustrated and upset all of the time. He is making huge improvements all of the time and while he still has many struggles he is getting there one day at a time...

March 2013 Update
Carson is doing great! His school has transitioned to more of a preschool feel and so far Carson is doing great with it. He is doing more group activities but still focusing on his individual goals.
Today I experienced a wonderful moment with Carson. He was upset and crying and he held out his arms to me and said "mama mama mama" I have been waiting a very long time for a moment like this. He is making huge improvements everyday and I am so proud of him!!

Improvements
Carson has been doing well and is having fewer meltdowns. We increased his melatonin and it seems to be helping sometimes. He still wakes up several times a night a few nights a week. His grandmother made him a weighted blanket so we will try that and see if it helps. He has been having some pretty bad meltdowns that seem to come on suddenly without warning. We still haven't figured out the cause of them and perhaps we never will. It's heartbreaking to see him so upset and there is very little we can do to comfort him. He has seemed more content in the afternoons and evenings after school and has been playing so well. He likes to find a corner to play in and once he does he is so happy with his animal toys. I love to see this! He has started to become interested in books again. He likes books with pictures of animals. He especially loves zebras, giraffes and lions. They are his three favorites!!!

Sleepless Nights
We started giving Carson melatonin at night to help him sleep. It's so hard for him to settle down and fall asleep. He used to be in bed for hours before he would finally fall asleep. The melatonin has made a huge difference! However, he wakes up almost every night at 3am and he is wide awake. He is hyper and so so so loud!!! He doesn't cry but just yells so loudly. His sisters room is just across the hall and he sometimes wakes her up. I go upstairs to his room and attempt to lay with him. I will tell him it's still night time and he needs to lay down and go back to sleep. I tell him to be quiet and close his eyes. He looks at me blankly and gets louder. He is so unreachable. He doesn't comprehend anything I say. I eventually leave his room and he stands at his open door yelling louder and louder. At this point every one in the house is awake. This is becoming an every night occurrence. I don't know what to do or how to get through to him. I don't know how to parent a child that doesn't understand anything I say to him. Things were going so well for awhile and now it's like we are back to the beginning. All I can do is pray for strength and patience and hope that this too shall pass...

Finally...
Carson has finally settled down and has become calmer again. Being out of his routine is getting more difficult for him. Now that he is back to school he is much happier and more content :)
